I follow Charlotte Mason as my home schooling guide.
Charlotte Mason, an English Lady, might be the first person who promoted the home schooling concept 100+ years ago. Her ideas were very close to Waldorf but different. Waldorf is known as 華德福教育 in Taiwan. I don't have much experience or knowledge about Taiwan's 華德福教育. So, don't quote anything about Waldorf from me.
Charlotte Mason's philosophy about education for the early years was using the living books for schooling. My children study math, history, and science by reading novels and stories.
Isn't that a wonderful concept!
Let's talk about history. It is easier for you to see what I am talking about.
Do you like to watch soap operas, read romance/fiction novels, or watch historic movies? Do you remember almost every detail of the stories? To me, the answer is yes. I read so many romance novels when I was in High School in Taiwan even during classes. I could remember almost every detail without any problem. If our textbooks were like any kind of novels, our students will get full scores on every school entrance exam.
Let me tell you what books my children have read so far for the history. I live in America right now, so American history is our focus. (P.S. I did and still do try to teach my children Taiwanese history. I couldn't find any suitable information. I hope and wish something suitable will be available soon.)
